A Place For Hope
Hope is at the heart of St. Leonard’s Place Peel. Our person-centered approach is grounded in empowerment, compassion, and respect, supporting each individual as an active partner in their journey toward wellness, independence, and stronger connections to the community. For more than 55 years, we have walked alongside men as they rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
St. Leonard's Place Peel
St. Leonard's Place Peel (SLPP) is a non-profit charitable organization that has supported men in our community since 1971.
For more than 55 years, individuals experiencing complex challenges have found stability, connection, and pathways toward independence through SLPP’s housing and coordinated supports. With housing for 117 men and a continuum of services delivered by a multidisciplinary team, we provide the structure, resources, and opportunities needed to support long-term stability and meaningful community connection.
Our person-centered, inclusive programs meet individuals where they are in their journey. Men have access to on-site case management, nutritious meals, health and wellness supports, and daily programming focused on life skills, financial literacy, emotional well-being, and employment readiness. Recreation and leisure activities further promote wellness, social connection, and personal growth through meaningful community participation.
Our Evidence-Based Approach
We recognize that each individual's needs, strengths, and goals are unique. Our evidence-informed, strengths-based approach combines person-centred supports delivered by our multidisciplinary team with coordinated access to essential health, social, and community services. Through this integrated approach, individuals build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to achieve housing stability, meaningful employment, and healthy relationships.
This holistic model fosters self-sufficiency, strengthens community connection, and supports long-term stability. By providing the right supports at the right time, individuals are empowered to build essential life skills, enhance well-being, and move toward greater independence.

Our History
1962 to 1971: Beginnings
Sir Robert Williams was instrumental in establishing St. Leonard’s House in Windsor in 1962. Two years later, he moved his family to Bramalea, where he became actively involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, delivering Christmas packages to men working at the Brampton foundry. His generosity and commitment to community led him to open his home to individuals leaving incarceration who had nowhere else to go.
A Board of Directors soon formed, bringing together dedicated community members who shared his vision. Bramalea Limited donated two‑and‑a‑half acres of land, and on June 21, 1971, Sir Robert Williams’s vision became a reality when St. Leonard’s Place Peel opened its doors to 21 men.
“I am not my brother’s keeper. I am my brother’s brother.”
– Sir Robert Williams, K.S.S., C.M., O.M.C.1987 to 2012: Growth
Over the years, SLPP steadily expanded from its modest beginnings. A residence expansion in 1987 increased capacity, and a major addition in 2000 nearly doubled it. During this time, SLPP broadened its mission, evolving from serving only federal parolees to supporting individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness and mental health challenges.
Further growth continued in 2007 with the addition of 24 rooms and a larger, professional kitchen to meet rising demand. In 2012, two additional floors were added to the residence, bringing 21 more beds and further strengthening the organization’s ability to serve the community.
55 Years: Commitment
St. Leonard’s Place Peel has grown from a modest 21‑bed house into a transitional housing provider in the Region, now supporting 117 men. Building on more than five decades of service, the organization remains deeply committed to providing opportunities for individuals to achieve lasting stability and a brighter future. This dedication to excellence continues to guide the ongoing growth and evolution of St. Leonard’s Place Peel.
Today, St. Leonard’s Place Peel remains a place of hope and opportunity, where men are supported every day to become the best version of themselves.
